Every now and again, we at Blue Chip Signworks get the opportunity to work on a project that just makes you feel really good. We recently completed such a project for a client in Scottsdale, AZ. Our client’s son is a huge baseball fan. He particularly likes reading about the legend and accomplishments of the incomparable Babe Ruth. After settling into a new home in Scottsdale, it was time to get the Babe on a Wall Mural, front and center.
We visited the new home and reviewed the work needed to prepare the wall for the mural. There were several patches that needed to be cleaned up. A skim coat of plastering removed the texturing to leave a clean, flat, smooth wall. Our client had already purchased a high resolution image of the Babe from Getty Images. We worked with the image to get the paneling exactly the way we wanted it. We used a matte laminate to minimize the glare off the mural from the nearby windows. The mural panels were printed and laminated, ready to install.
We arranged a morning for the installation convenient for the client. Then, within a few hours time, transformed a wall in her son’s bedroom. The final image is 10 feet high by about 16 feet wide and has a strong impact on the room. The one wall shows the Babe just sliding into home plate; one moment in his fantastic career larger than life in the bedroom. It came out great.
Projects like this can totally change the feel of a bedroom, man cave, or family room for a sports fan. Putting a special moment on the wall, larger than life, gives the feeling of being a part of the action. It really is a totally different feel than just looking at a photo on a screen or in a book.
