Welcome to Summer in the desert. As anyone who lives here knows very well, we actually have two distinct summer seasons in Phoenix. We’re currently experiencing the dry, sunny, blistering heat of the early summer, which typically lasts through June and sometimes into early July. Right around the corner comes the Monsoon season. The Monsoon season typically starts very early in July and lasts through September. Monsoon season is characterized by hot, more humid, uncomfortable days that see thunderstorms build throughout the day. Typically, the thunderheads develop into spotty storms with torrential rainfall and very strong winds in the evening. These storms pack quite a strong punch.
So, what does all of this have to do with signage? Well, there are certain inspections you should do now, before the Monsoon season starts, to make sure you are getting full value from your outdoor signage and to insure that it is safe before subjecting it to Monsoon winds and rain.
First: June days are very long, with sunsets pushing towards 8pm here in Phoenix. When was the last time you looked at your sign in the dark, to see if it still fully illuminates? Many business leaders leave their office at 6pm or earlier and, in summer months, may never see that the illumination of the sign has failed. Your customers see it though. Make an appointment with your signage one night and take a look.
Second: Is your signage fading from the intense sun? Some signage is guaranteed and will be replaced if it fades. Other types may be able to be updated to a fresh vibrant look very cost-effectively. Take a critical look when your signage is not in direct sunlight.
Third: Is your signage securely attached and watertight? Has the high heat weakened fasteners, glues, and/or sealants, leaving you vulnerable to the first strong gust? Now is the time to find out.
At Blue Chip Signworks, we have a full complement of inspection and maintenance services to help you prepare for the nastiness ahead. We would be glad to give your signage a mid-year checkup, and help if anything needs a little care. Give us a call today at 480-785-3940 to set up an appointment.
